Finding ourselves in the wonderful City of Bristol, and in need of an evening meal, we boarded Under The Stars, a ship converted to a bar and restaurant, and moored at the quayside in the vibrant rejuvenated riverside of the city. Fortuitously we found that there was to be a live acoustic act on that very evening. Ordering tapas (which was excellent) we awaited the entertainment.
Lewis Creaven is a young, local, southpaw guitarist with his own band; but on this occasion was to play a solo acoustic set of covers. I understood that he would play a two-parter with another act, a duet, in between. Unfortunately I only had time to see the first part; but he was impressive enough for me to write a few words anyway. I didn’t see the duet at all, unfortunately.
Lewis played six or seven songs including Paul Simon‘s ‘You Can Call Me Al’; Simon and Garfunkle’s ‘The 59th Bridge Street Song’; and Cat Stevens’ ‘Moonshadow’. He showed himself to be competent; confident and genuinely appreciative of the applause he received. His guitar playing was very good and his voice was excellent. If I’m in Bristol again I’ll look out for him and his band; and good luck to him. PTMQ
